What do they teach them at these schools?
Clearly not how to read poetry.

I don't know how good a cook Sophie Dahl is, but she must be one of the few people in the country who reads Stevenson's "From a Railway Carriage" as if she was pulled in to a siding! The whole point of that poem is that it mimics the "over the points" rhythm of a steam train. It gallops.

So few people these days understand the character that pacing and expression give to poetry (and prose, for that matter).
