DVD Meme from a large number of people...
And boy, will you be sorry.

Post, it says, a list of the TV series you have on DVD. (Luckily, it does not include Off Air video.)

This may not be entirely accurate because I'm not sure whether there is anything missing from the Excel list. If I did not have the Excel listings you would not be getting this... which would probably be a GOOD THING.

Goodness me, that's a lot of DVDs

You should see the film list (which includes the not-yet-replaced videos.) Or perhaps not. That has about 420 entries. And we never saw ourselves as film enthusiasts!

Did you really have to write the name of the series out several times? Couldn't you just say, for example, "Babylon Five series 1-5"?

Missing a season of Buffy? I must say I liked Season Four a lot more than Season Five. In fact, since I watched the whole lot pretty much back to back on DVD (therefore without having to wait each week) I actually found Season Four to be somewhat of a relief. It was getting annoying watching them in the same old high school all the time, so the new setting was great. Also the episode where Buffy goes psychotic and decides she's going to kill her roommate is one of my personal favourites.

Also why do you have Hustle - series 1 and 2 and than another one just labelled "Hustle - series"?

One last thing... YAY! "The Blue Planet" is awesome! Rock on David Attenborough!

Both of us dislike Buffy Season 4. Probably because of Buffy's new boyfriend (name escapes in willing forget.) It only has one episode I miss having (Hush.)

You will note we are quite tough about this. We don't have Blake's Seven Seasons 3 and 4, because we won't have Season 4 through the door and, while there are two episodes worth watching in Season 3, it is so not worth it. If they had put The Professionals into proper season order we wouldn't have had Season 5. Likewise, we don't own Crusade and only bits of Stargate SG1.

Buffy's new boyfriend in Season Four is even more irritating in Season Five! In Season Four he has some relevance to the Big Bad at the end. In Season Five they suddenly have to find a way to get rid of him and it doesn't work as neatly as it could have.

Personally (and it's always a personal decision, I know) I found Season Five to be far more disappointing than Season Four. (Then again, I was told that Season Four was going to be awful and that Season Five would get better. So perhaps that explains it.) I have to say that Season Five is the most depressing of all the Buffy Seasons. (I mean the way it makes you feel, not "depressingly awful" or anything like that.)

Oh and another thing. I kinda resented how they decided to remove something I had in common with Buffy at the beginning of Season Five. Up until then she'd been an only child and then, all of a sudden, she's got a sister. And not a new addition to the family either. From that point on she has always had a sister. I suppose I shouldn't resent it (and believe me I've never consiously considered this a reason to dislike the fifth season), but I think it got to me, y'know?

I actually rather liked the 'Dawn' twist, but then I had a younger sibling.

There isn't as much of the annoying boyfriend in Season 5...

There isn't as much of the annoying boyfriend in Season 5...

I never got the whole "going to vampire prostitutes" thing. While I know they got that out of the way fairly quickly, it's most definitely a feature of Season Five, not Season Four.

There's also the extremely dodgy depiction of mental illness for the rest of the season.

Cripes! Show me a TV series that isn't dodgy in its depiction of mental illness! (Speaking as a Criminal Minds fan and all...)

Only one series of Battlestar Galactica?

Only the first series of BG (21C). And we haven't watched that yet...

Lil just copy-pasted the spreadsheet which, for obvious reasons, is divided by series, and which contains a few errors that need fixing (like the Hustle one, and not dating the two Emma's) If nothing else we now have an incentive to edit the spreadsheet.

BG (21C)

Er... what does that mean?

Sorry for being overly pedantic about the list, mind you.

Sorry - 'Battlestar Galactica - 21st Century (as opposed to the 20th Century 'original' series - of which I have fond memories - but never really liked enough to have the video).

I was gradually transferring some of our off-air video recordings to DVD - but if we start listing those (Play For Today, Knightmare...) we'd be here forever *g*

So where abouts are you guys up to so far (in terms of watching, as opposed to owning)? (I presume you are watching them together then?)

Well, we saw a lot of the series on TV (some many times) and had a lot of others on video, either off-air (we had a collection of some 500 mainly off-air three hour tapes - I think the first one has a play called Kipling and a documentary on Dario Fo. Our rule then was if we hadn't watched the tape within a month it got wiped. Babylon 5 was supplied from the States before broadcast.

All the videos were watched.

While some of the DVDs are for archive purposes (i.e. we watch odd episodes occasionally or indulge in a sudden binge) I can honestly say we have seen about 80% of these. We are on a West Wing binge at the moment. Mostly, we watch together, but not all the time. I dislike some of Ina's stuff - even when I bought it for her!

Ooh, there was a Campion series? And The Owl Service, OMG. And Emma? (Though I do have Pride and Prejudice, and I have two Emma films, but still.) The things I miss, living in Australia.

*goes off to look at own spreadsheet* - pathetic.

Campion was incredibly well cast. Peter Davidson had Albert down pat, and Brian Glover was Lugg. (Indeed, when we first heard they were making the series, way back when, Ina and I looked at each other and said, "You know who ought to play Lugg?" Then, in chorus, "Brian Glover!"

I'll have to keep an eye out for it, then.

I didn't include in my list all the stuff I taped on VHS from the TV (like practically every David Attenborough series ever) - they're all stored in a tall heap of boxes in the corner of the 2nd spare room/aka the wine cellar, now, though the VHS player still does work. (I take it that's what you mean by "Off Air video".) DVD is so much easier to store and use.

Yes, it means taped onto VHS from the TV, rather than purchased as a commercial videotape.

We have a policy of replacing with DVD where possible, and throwing out the tapes where we have replaced everything. Unfortunately, those spare half hours at the end of tapes mean a large number of horse races and half hour comedies that aren't replaceable.

Not to mention such series as Garrison's Gorillas which are not available except as pirate copies on DVD.

I thought my list would be pathetically short, but if I can include all the Dr Who....
