The origins of religion

The evolution of religion is an interesting subject, and one under much discussion in various fields.

Here is a terrific paper summarising the two main theories.

Another cool link - bookmarked for when I get more time, but I'll definitely read that.

Let's see, was it L. Ron Hubbard who said, "If you want to get rich, start a business. If you want to get really rich, start a religion." My snarkish side suspects that is its roots.

BTW, happy early birthday.

Probably. It was the unholy alliance between him and Crowley that was really worrying - the latter could have sold snow to the Eskimos Inuit. (Who knows if the PC police are lurking, though I understand that many Canadian Arctic tribes actually prefer "Eskimo" because they "aren't bloody Inuit".)

This was on QI once (so it might not be true), but what they said was basically that all Inuit are Eskimos, but not all Eskimos are Inuit.

Just as many 'native Americans' are either neutral about being called 'Indians' or indeed prefer to be so called. Or so I've been informed.

Monkey see, monkey do, I would imagine by-product.
