but please ignore the 'musts' because I certainly am going to!

Leave a comment and I'll:
1. Tell you why I friended you.
2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a colour, a photo, a word etc.
3. Tell you something I like about you.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you. (To which you must respond!)
6. Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.
7. In return, you must post this in your LJ.

I suspect most of the answers aren't going to be very interesting. Particularly, the "tell me why I friended you" because for quite a lot of people that would be "because you friended me/your journal looked interesting." Ah, well...

Once upon time, there appeared to be a girl named Alice. But she was really a djinn named Venna.

1. Tell you why I friended you.

I liked your views on Bear's Blood and Iron. You are interesting on books.

2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a colour, a photo, a word etc.

Dogs, and liberal politics. (That's two, so sue me.)

3. Tell you something I like about you.

You have so many troubles, yet you never give up, and you are always concerned for other people.

4. Tell you a memory I have of you.

Just after we friended each other, you wrote a memorial piece about a dog of yours that had gone missing in the desert that moved me to tears.

5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you. (To which you [must] respond!) How did the two of you, plus dogs, end up living out in the Mojave? (If that is too personal, please feel free to ignore.)

6. Tell you my favorite user pic of yours. Well, you only have the one, but I love it to bits.

(1) Cool. I remembered that but wasn't sure if you did. Not sure if my reviews are still as interesting; I don't have the energy for them the way I did back then, so I do "bites". Plus, problematic books are easier to review, and I've gotten better about only picking stuff I'll like these days. (not that I didn't like Bear's book; I did, but it's prolly my least favorite of hers thus far that I've read; it did make a nice compare & contrast w/the Erickson book, tho). (and you of all people are really likely to enjoy the WJW book w/the cat avatar, ummm, implied spaces)

(2) Why does *everyone* associate me w/dogs? I can't imagine .. . (& leonburgers, being a chihuaha/whippet cross, have hunting in their blood -- what makes you think the movies/tv got them wrong???)

(3) Thank you.

(4) Thank you again. And you just made me all misty-eyed.

(5) We were living on 3/4 acre in LA in a rent-controlled place; and more or less in the middle of several combined serious health problems that were costing a ton of money both in expenses and lost income, the owner of the house sold it to someone new, who took advantage of this law that says you can kick people out at whim if you buy a house and claim to be moving into it (to back up this claim, you basically have to not try to rent it out to anyone for the first month after previous tenant leaves), and getting even a quarter of an acre property w/a decent house would have meant upping our rent from $1600, which was already pushing it even when we were healthy (we were doing okay but not saving anything, and then throw in medical costs and lowered income and you have a budding disaster), to about $2500, which was purely impossible.

So wound up looking further afield, and the short version (there is a longer one) is that we wound up waaaay out here on five acres, which is awesome for the dogs and actually good for us, other than neighbor and house issues.

(6) Heh, thanks again. =)

1. Tell you why I friended you

RL, obviously. Known each other, how long?

2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a colour, a photo, a word etc.

Filk, almost too obviously. I do admire your ability with lyrics an awful lot.

3. Tell you something I like about you.

Your sense of humour. It's terrific.

4. Tell you a memory I have of you.

Oh, it has to be the first time you finished a UK filkcon with Sam's Song at the awards ceremony. There are various moments at filks when a combination of the occasion and the music fit together so well that the emotion sweeps everyone up together.

5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you. (To which you [must] respond!)

Who came up with the idea of the Nyronds in the first place, you or Sam or did it materialise out of thin air?

6. Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.

Love the rantometer ones.

1. Tell you why I friended you.

You know, I don't really remember. It was during the early days of Primeval fandom, and you were talking sense, you were plainly intelligent and well read, and you could write, and you had a sense of humour, and I thought, I want to be friends with this person, even though she isn't actually posting much in her LJ - which you weren't at the time - so I did.

2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a colour, a photo, a word etc.

Primeval would be too easy. So would fanfic in general. If I write 'dogs' it would start to look obsessive, seeing as I said that to mojave_wolf...

Science, I think.

3. Tell you something I like about you.

I like a lot about you. Most of all I like your down-to-earth, no-nonsense attitude, which you manage while being kind.

4. Tell you a memory I have of you.

How kind and helpful you were to me, personally, during the Mr Entitlement fracas, even though (due to depression) I was over-reacting.

5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you. (To which you [must] respond!)

When and how did you get into fandom?

6. Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.

Looking through your userpics, I was very taken by the 'Fred is Always Right' one. Though I always think of you with the one you used for this comment.

*blushes* Thank you. The "being kind" bit matters to me hugely. The internet can be a rough place, and I prefer to try and keep those parts I inhabit as nice as possible.

I cam to fandom after struggling for depression for a couple of years whilst not realising what was happening to me. I'd largely withdrawn from a lot of social interaction through pressures of work and ill-heath and my concentration levels plummeted, which gave me problems in my original fic-writing. I discovered that slash existed on the internet through a friend of a friend (grondfic) and was doing a bit of reading on line whilst Primeval was airing the first time, so I started reading in the fandom.

I was still unable to settle to my main writing interests, so I had a go at fanfic to see if I could write smut. Predator was the result of the experiment, and then I got caught up in the fandom as a whole, which eventually gave birth to Denial. Fanfic has enable me to keep writing while I get the depression under control.

I hope I'll eventually get back to my original fic, now that retirement is only just around the corner. Only three months to go!!!

PS Louise Dennis made Fred is Always Right for me!
