The way Flickr is organised, depending on which tab you click, you see the folders in different orders, so this left me a choice of two different photos - but I had already posted and blogged about one of them, so you get this! On which I have little to say, except it was taken at Hill Hall, and is one of several shots of paperbarks in my collection.

That is gorgeous. I love the colours.
Serious question: do you ever do portrait photography?

I don't have a studio - or a proper indoor set up - and people tend not to want to have pictures taken of them... but yes, I do do portraits, when people let me. Mostly, though, I just snap. Nor do I normally put such pictures up on Flickr, because some people don't like it.

This is a portrait of my niece's husband, Andy, at their wedding.

Those are lovely. I asked because I'm going to need a proper 'author photo' at some point: would you be willing to photograph me, do you think? (I am very unphotogenic and the picture I'm using at present is one the marquis took to show my hair when I dyed it black, so is largely face-free. (It was the only decent one I had.)

The thing is that, with digital cameras, you can go on taking pictures until you get one the sitter likes! Or forget it if it doesn't happen. (Plus basics like getting the lighting right, a plainish background, using three-quarter profile and distracting the sitter. Or sometimes one is plain lucky - one of the best shots I ever took is one of a Japanese gentleman at the Hyde Park Great Japanese Festival, many years ago, which was a snapshot using a telephoto at long range. The best portrait shot ever taken of me and Ina shows us consulting a map, in the rain, in the Peak District. )

Sure, I'd like to help out and I am, of course, free! (There are much better photographers on my flist, I hasten to add - for instance Simon Bisson.) E-mail me or talk to me on the phone and we'll get a place and time.

Susan has a lot of portrait shots from various filk cons - just not in digital format (yet). She is supposed to have done a 'fashion shoot' last weekend so I can show off my new coats and hairdo...

I want to see the fashion shots!
