Just watched The Queen on DVD. I have to say this is a brilliant movie (or rather, TV movie, in that it is not really a big screen piece.) However, it has only reinforced my opinion that both the monarchy and Blair are a waste of space, and that Diana, while she did not have two brain cells to rub together, was a fairly decent human being who did a lot of good work. The only people who come out of the movie well are, of all people, Alistair Campbell and Cherie Blair! The mind boggles...

Not really:
One, it's a movie, therefore fiction, and, to adapt the jessica Rabbit quote: "I'm not virtuous, I'm just drawn that way".
Two: Every movie needs a backer, and the last thing you want to do is get your backer's back up (sorry) -- so perhaps Someone Somewhere along the line, decided that Some People should get a good press
Three: You can't tell a stopry without one sympathetic character, even if we're talking sheeps and goats.
Just my opinion. YMMV

Perhaps I put this badly - the film reminded me of my thoughts at the time (save that at that point I was cheering on TB). My view of the people involved as portrayed in the film is pretty much my long-term view of the real people involved (including the fact that I think Campbell and Cherie Blair are probably among the more intelligent people associated with the Blair government.)

There has been much talk of the film engendering sympathy for the Queen and the rest of the Royals. I had no sympathy for them in the first place, and the film did not engender any...
